IPL Winner of Institute:  Mrs. Ashwini B. Patil

Topic: Hand-on based Experimental Learning for Computer Networks About the tools/techniques used:

  • Problem Based Learning : Many Topic in CN includes the Mathematical problems asked in GATE exam
    • Problem based learning Technique is used for various GATE related topics in Computer networks like Multiple Access Protocols , Error detection and correction , Routing Algorithms ,Classful IP Addresses ,Classless IP addresses ,Sub-netting and Super-netting
    • This technique is applied by assigning the problem in groups, Analysis of Problem and Apply knowledge to solve the given problem followed by discussion on the solutions in the group
  • Use of Modern Tools:
    • The Network Simulator ( like Cisco) , Networking utilities (like ipconfig, ping, arp, route, traceroute and netstat etc.) , Network Packet analyzer( Like Wireshark) is very  useful for computer networks course to simulate the working principle of different networking concepts and analyze the packet formats of different protocols in real network environment.
  • Hands-on based Experimental Learning:
    • Simulation Tool
    • Networking Utilities
    • Socket Programming
    • Virtual Lab of CN (IITB)
  • Short Quizzes / Pools on online platforms
    • Used the tools like WordCloud, Pooleveryweher: Pool , Kahoot Ms Team Chat to ensure their engagement in class and make sure what they understood.

Outcomes of Technique:

  • Solve the problems on various topics asked in GATE.
  • Use the make use of network simulators and analyzers.
  • Compare the different network protocols and services.

IPL Winner of Institute: Mr. R. J. Mandale

Topic: Problem based learning and reciprocal teaching method used in SY and TY class.

Nowadays, the expectations of the IT industry have been changed. They want to hire students who are industry-ready. This means they want to hire students who can work on live projects without giving them training. Without providing training to students, they should solve real-world problems. Problem-based learning activity improves the self-learning abilities of students to solve a given problem. Also, it develops logical and programming skills in students. The main motivation behind the above activity is to improve students' self-learning, logical, programming, and presentation skills of students so that they can solve real-life problems on their own. The above technique is applied to courses such as data structures, java, and mobile application development lab.

The following steps involved in the activity:

  • Identification of problem statements
  • Selection of students based on interest, Providing problem statements to students
  • Prerequisite’s knowledge should be given
  • Making resources available on Moodle
  • Problem understanding, critical thinking by students
  • Finding solution using logic, programming skills
  • Applying theory into practice
  • Presenting solution in lecture (Knowledge sharing)

Outcomes of Technique:

  • Engagement in classroom activities got improved
  • Confidence to face large audience while delivering sessions got improved
  • Self-learning and programming abilities of students are enhanced
