Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at RIT Rajaramnagar.

The department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest departments of RIT and was established in the year 1983 with an intake of 60 students. Over the past three and half decades, the department has progressed by leaps and bounds and could create its separate identity not only in the region of Shivaji University, Kolhapur but also in the state of Maharashtra due to its continuous efforts in providing quality education to the students.

At present, the department offers one degree program in civil engineering at undergraduate (UG) level, while two M.Tech. programs namely, M. Tech. Civil Structural Engineering and M. Tech. Construction Management at postgraduate (PG) level. The sanctioned students’ strengths of M. Tech. programs are respectively 24 and 18 per year. The UG program (B.Tech.) in Civil Engineering has been accredited/reaccredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. Both the PG programs are accredited once and are now due for reaccreditation process by NBA. The department has been recognized as a ‘Ph.D. center’ by Shivaji University, Kolhapur. At present, the department has more than 24 PhD scholars while 4 have been awarded with Ph.D.  The department has experienced and highly qualified faculty and dedicated staff; and has well established labs equipped with modern equipment. The department is recipient of grants from various schemes of AICTE such as DST-FIST, MODROB, RPS etc. which has helped us modernize the laboratories.

The department has adopted student centric teaching learning methodology known as outcome based education (OBE) system and also implemented the choice based credit system (CBCS) curriculum for promoting the educational liberalization of the existing conventional higher education models. The curriculum has been designed following guidelines of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and considering current needs of industry so that students get equipped with the necessary skills.

The faculty members of our department have excellent academic qualifications and have been conferred with awards at institutional and national levels. They have representation on Board of Studies (BoS) of various Universities and engineering institutions, as well as on the editorial boards of national/international journals. The department organizes workshops, seminars, webinars, national/international seminars and conferences independently as well as in joint association with reputed professional bodies. The faculty has published several research papers in national/international conferences and also in various h-indexed Journals.

The department has good connect with industries for industry institute interaction and for seeking internship and employment opportunities to students. It has signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with reputed organizations and it offers consultancy and testing services to various private and government organizations by active involvement of students.
