The department works as an important pillar for all Engineering programs in RIT. The department also known as First Year Engineering comprises Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Communication Skills, Environmental Science, Foreign Languages (German and Japanese) and basic engineering courses. The notable academic features of first year engineering are Engineering Graphics through AutoCAD, Engineering Exploration and Design Project and mainly Open Elective courses that serves students academic needs at entry level.
